This past weekend, it was my birthday. And I decided to spend it with a couple of buddies down in Islamorada for some fishing.

Mike Rossi had never caught a redfish, so that was on our agenda.

We made our way down to the keys, went out for a little while, ran back to the Lorelei for lunch, then back out for some more fishing. Got onto the tailing reds all afternoon. We drove down to our favorite pizza joint in Big Pine (Pizzaworks) for an awesome Philly Cheese Steak Pizza. After dinner, we made our way back to the hotel and decided to go poke around for some night time poonage. We fished for a little bit, as there were some storms around. We put 4 poonies in the air, and got one to the skiff.

Ran back to the hotel, drank some beer and called it a night.

Woke up and made our way to Flamingo. Once again on the tailing redfish all day. Chris also got a decent snook to the skiff. I had some of the sickest eats I’ve ever experienced on a red coming up and eating a fly on the surface. I was also crushed when I lined a really large snook that was making it’s way to me up on the surface.

Observation, the water in the park right now is really nasty. So many areas that are usually crystal had that dark hue as Garfield normally does this time of year. I’m assuming it’s from all the rain, but the fish don’t seem to mind at all.

Until next time!
