The Lower Keys and Key West experienced record cold weather during early to mid January too. However, most of the fish that couldn’t handle the cold and expired were snapper, and other reef type fish. I have not seen or heard of any Tarpon, Bonefish or Permit that expired around Key West or the Lower Keys. If anyone else has any reports of this happening, then please let me know. I have heard tales of large bonefish kills in the Upper and Middle Keys and some Tarpon Kills too. Today I am venturing out with a research scientist affiliated with Tarpon and Bonefish Trust in an attempt to retrieve an electronic beacon that detached from a tagged Tarpon. Wish us luck! We probably will do some Permit and Bonefish hunting too. Can’t resist!
