Cold Fresh Water
I am a saltwater guy, you know this. But I finally got a chance to hunt some Native Trout, Rainbow Trout and Carp. I drove south from Western NY into Pennsylvania for 2 days. We started the first day at the Kinzua Dam and fished our way down-river for Northern Pike, Smallmouth and Trout.

The month of April in the Mid-Atlantic region brings a plethora of fishing opportunities. An angler can pursue trout under blanketing hatches mayflies and caddis, intercept shad running up river, or chase stripers just to name a few. I obviously didn’t do any of those things…
Tails on traps
“Yeah that’ll work” says Capt.Bryan Elkins as we make our way under the bridge toward the gulf. He was talking about the shrimp fly i had in my hand after he had told me what we were about to do. Looking for Tripletails under the crab bouys off Little Gasparilla Island. We put the sun behind us and we “ran the traps” heading north.

High sun, decent winds, and days of clear skies. Finally, Spring is officially here! I did some fishing the past week, and the weather was a bit inconsistent, but I was able to get two good days in, and on foot.

The wind is up to 20 knots and the water temps on the flats are about mid 60’s in the Lower Keys, so I’m tying flies.
