Now I am far from what people would describe as ‘sentimental’. But I do have a special place reserved in my heart for the small streams of western North Carolina. These streams are what introduced me to and eventually made me fall in love with fly fishing. On that same note, I owe a lot of that to a good friend named Ben Castle. Coincidentally enough, these streams are the first place that Ben and I fished together. We meet up every few months to fish, mostly here in south Florida, the Bahamas, and sometimes out in Colorado. But we always make a point of heading back up to WNC to hit these beautiful small streams.

Home Town Snookin’
As a college student away from home, the thought of getting back on my home waters is always on my mind, so when the opportunity presented itself for me to head home I jumped on it. I packed swiftly, making sure I had the essentials, my SWC hat, fly rod, and whatever clothes were clean. Leaving my apartment here in […]
“Snook Blitz”
After a slow morning looking for hungry fish on the flats, near Gasparilla Sound, we were ready to call it a day. Bryan, Courtney, and myself had put in some hours blind casting the 8 and 9wt fly rods into the wind. Sore hands and blisters were common on the boat that day. With the wind blowing the water into the harbor […]
Overnight SUP setup
For anyone interested in how I set up my SUP for fly fishing and camping. Nothing official just what I do. Don’t forget safety equipment like a vest and first aid kit!
Not your average girl adventure!
Sharing my great friend Courtney’s recent adventure! ~Mrs. Skinny Water Culture Not your average girl adventure! My adventure began August 13th as I boarded a plane for Houston, Texas carrying my 7,8,9,10wt fly rods as carry on bound for Belize City International, followed by an 11 seater twin engine prop flight to the island of San Pedro, Belize. When I […]
Honeymoon in Provo
Here is a quick tutorial on how to catch a Bonefish and a recap of my recent honeymoon trip to the Turks and Caicos.
7wt Chronicles
Since my last post I have been back at work, trying to get everything back in order. However, I am still taking time to fish as much as I can, throwing a 7wt at 9wt fish as much as possible. Why a 7wt you may ask? Because, when you are sight fishing on a low tide you want your fly […]
GT’s…….. Anybody?
For a long time now,I have been thinking about taking a badass trip somewhere in the Pacific or the Indian Ocean. This video has made up my mind for me. I originally saw the video while skimming through Bonefish On the Brain this morning. Anyone interested in going? Clear an hour of your schedule…….
Backup Plans
It is late August and there are sporadic reports of good numbers of salmon running through the lower end of the Douglastown Salmon Run. Naturally, my mind wondered to two handers and swinging flies for fresh kings, cohos, browns, and steelhead. The reports elicited enough of a response that I decided to break my one rule for salmon fishing: […]
What Are the Odds?!
Ever since I have moved to South Florida 3 years ago the “Big 3” have consumed me. The Grand Slam (Permit, Bonefish, Tarpon in one day) seemed like a distant fantasy and an impossible achievement. My good friend Derek recently had his day and proved it possible to me. It still seemed highly unlikely as his skill and patience far […]
