With the heat of summer upon us, it is also time for that annual threat, the severe thunderstorm. Looking at weather forecasts, it seems as if thunderstorms are expected to occur every single day. They come quick and dump an inch or more of rain in a few short hours. For trout streams, this is replenishment. To a warm […]
Muddy Water Carping
Knocking ’em Down
Well, as many of my spring time fishing in the past, I have also been doing a little bit of redfish fishing. A little bit of bow time for myself, and putting some friends on some reds, too. After celebrating the Miami Heat Championship all night long, the headed to the park in the afternoon with Jose Sanchez on his […]
Los Cayo’s
Finally in Islamorada: Target for the day, Tarpon…. Fishing with Adrienne Comeau (female angle) and Matt Smythe (fishingpoet). We launched the skiff and are onto look for poonage. Adrienne had already caught her first post last year down in Key West, and Matt had fished for them in Islamorada in the past as well, so I was hoping for some […]
Cane Poling for Dinner
I never even put the paddle down….one handed, leader in the rod tip.
Jumping Poon Sequence
We went searching for tarpon again last week. The conditions were not as good as last time, but we found a decent amount of rollers. Brandon managed to stick a hook in one fish’s mouth. The fish jumped several times during the fight. He leadered the fish on a few occasions, but the fish managed to pull loose boat-side before […]
Bonefishing has been good….
Really good! The permit continue to show themselves but they haven’t been playing nice like the bonefish. The biggest emotional let down in fly fishing for me…when the permit hard charges the fly and at the last second turns away casually like nothing happened. WTF! Why do they do that?…”Ain’t nobody got time for that!”
Tarpon Season
Well, we have been in full blown tarpon season for a while now. I have to admit, I’m kinda ready for them to leave. The days are long, and days off are non existent. Random cancellations pop up here and there, but it’s tough to find people to fish with on short notice. I have had a few good days […]
Diablo Double Teaming Mingo
Ever since I got the Diablos tons of people have been asking me to take them out. The reason is because they have never been fishing on a paddle craft. This week Warren Chin hit me up to go. He is on vacation for the next two months. We made a game plan, loaded up the Diablos and off we […]
No Place Like Home
I’ve logged so many hours behind the wheel as of late I’m starting to feel like a truck driver. In the past two months I’ve fished from South Texas to South Florida. Irrespective of where I travel though, I still cherish the time I spend on my home waters around the Upper Texas Coast. The marshes around here are special […]
Welcome to Miami: “Small, Bright, and Heavy”
Day one: Bjorn Stromsness and Adrienne Comeau arrived early in the AM, and were to fish with Martin Carranza in Biscayne Bay searching for bonefish. I was to pick up Matt and Davin around lunch time at the airport. I arrive at Ft. Lauderdale Airport at 11:55 to pick up Matt Smythe and Davin Ebanks. I send a group text […]
