Here is a long lost photo of the biggest snook I have seen in… well… ever… and I have seen a lot of them. She was a beast that fell for a DOA terroreyez. One lure that has a few skeptics but it has proved its place in my tacklebox time and time again.
Monstah Snook
Go DJ…
DJ Dan doing it again. On fly, on the kayak, while filming….not easy. Great job man!
Audible Fishing
At first glance the muddy flats of the Upper Texas Coast aren’t exactly enticing to a sight fisherman. Let’s not kid ourselves these aren’t the pristine flats of Andros, Belize, The Keys, or even the Lower Coast. Our marshes are unwadeable. That is, unless you enjoy trekking through waist-deep mud. Water clarity is often limited to a few inches of […]
Sailing the Revo with my wife
I recently took my wife out sailing in Ft. DeSoto. She had never sailed before and was excited to hear my feedback of just how nice it was to sail now that I had the Hobie sidekicks installed on the kayak. I had sailed a few times without the sidekicks and it worked just fine. The only downside is that […]
Rockport Reflections
Over the years fishing’s place in my life has transformed itself many times. When I started I went to have fun and hopefully catch fish. Size and quantity were trivial. As I began to grasp the concept my priority moved to catching numbers. The more fish I caught the happier I was. Next, the pursuit of big fish captured my […]
Inconsistently Good
The most recent cold front is a reminder that we’re nearing the end of the redfish explosion in the marshes on the Texas Coast. Over the last few weeks most of the shrimp has migrated to the Gulf leaving fin-fish as the only remaining forage available for a ravenous redfish. Extreme low tides due to the nagging northwest gales will […]
Redfish Explosion
Fishing has been flat-out ridiculous on the Upper Texas Coast. Huge schools of redfish everywhere you look. The water has cleaned up nicely with the passing of the last few cold fronts too making the fish a lot easier to spot and catch. It’s been a sight fisherman’s dream in the marshes lately. They’ll eat just about anything you throw […]
Fishing for a Worthy Cause
Every now and then it’s nice to set aside personal issues and give back for a worthy cause. I did just that recently. I fished the annual Rockport Yak Attack charity tournament benefitting Camp Aranzazu. The tournament weigh-in and captain’s meeting were at Camp Aranzazu’s beautiful facilities in Rockport, Texas. Camp Aranzazu is a not-for-profit, year-round camp that serves individuals […]
Red Hot Fishing
The fishing has been on fire here in Texas. Want proof? Enjoy…
New Gear, Preview of Fall, and a Few Trips South
I picked up a sweet new 8wt rod a few weeks ago and decided it was time to get a coating of slime and mud on it. This thing is light… On the road early to fish far, unknown waters… Jason and I found a good topwater bite early… Fishing the edges spartina grass… These rascals were all over the […]
