The other day I got a call from Vince saying he had talked to some guy named Patrick, who wanted to come down to Miami to peacock fish with his girlfriend Rebecca. Vince asked to see if I can point them in the right direction or possibly head out with them. We exchanged number, chatted for a bit and came up with a game plan. Patrick lives in Daytona, which I thought it was crazy for him to drive over 4 hours just to catch peacocks. He explained to me that it was in their bucket list to catch peacocks. The weather looked iffy but we made the best of it. I was only able to fish the morning because I was extremely busy at work this week.

Patrick and Rebecca drove down tuesday night in some horrible weather. At this point, we were praying for some good weather for the following day. Wednesday morning was full of rain but that wasn’t gonna scare us. I grabbed my rain wear and met Patrick and Rebecca at the Bait Shop. As we made our way to the first spot, the rain seem to stop. There was no sun but at least the rain was not in our worries. The second we rigged up there was peacocks laid up for Patrick and Rebecca to put a hurting on them. We walked down the bank and I spotted some fish. Rebecca made a perfect cast and it was game on!

Here is Rebecca with her first ever peacock.

We made our way to another spot to see if we had any luck. As soon as we showed up we scared some peas that were not cooperating. We walked until we start seen some more peacocks. I looked at the water and saw some bait piled into a little corner. I saw some flashes at the bottom and I knew exactly what it was. Patrick casted on top of the minnows that were swimming and he came tight with his first ever peacock.

As the clouds parted, thankfully, we started seeing more fish. They were chewing as soon as the day started to warm up.

It was almost time for me to go to work so we decided to hit up one last spot. Once we got there, there wasn’t a lot of action but that didn’t last long until we started to see the peacocks roaming the banks. It was a frenzy for a little while, Patrick and Rebecca had those rods bent while the fun lasted. peacock

Ive never seen a peacock with such dark color to it.

So it was finally time for me to head to work. I had an awesome time with these guys today. It is crazy how the drove over 4 hours to catch peacocks. But I can tell you that I like their dedication.

Until next time, stay classy Miami.
